What Is the Body Ready Method®?

The Body Ready Method® (BRM®) is a science-backed approach to supporting the pregnant body through all stages of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Developed by birth professionals, movement specialists, and pelvic health experts, BRM® focuses on preparing the body for birth in a way that honors physiology, alignment, and function—helping you move through pregnancy with greater comfort, awareness, and confidence.

Our bodies are made to birth; however, in modern society, our lifestyles often inhibit us from having easeful labors where the birthing person and baby work well together. From long commutes and hours spent sitting in office chairs to repetitive movements in certain jobs or sports, we often develop patterns that pull our bodies out of alignment. Over time, these habits can affect how the body functions during pregnancy and birth.

The goal of the Body Ready Method® is to help you realign to what your body was made to do. By improving mobility, balance, and awareness, we create the conditions for smoother, faster labors, more efficient pushing, easier recovery after birth, and fewer pelvic floor issues—all contributing to a more aligned, intuitive birth experience. This method can be used by everyone, regardless of your birth plans or the kind of birth you envision.

Unlike generic prenatal fitness or “do your kegels” advice, the BRM® system looks at the body as an integrated whole. It recognizes that small, intentional adjustments to how we move, breathe, and rest can have a profound impact on the birth experience and the recovery that follows.

Why I Became a BRM® Pro

As a doula, I believe that birth is not just a physical event; it’s a full-body, deeply intuitive process that deserves preparation rooted in awareness and respect for the body’s design. Through my Body Ready Method® training, I learned to see and support the body differently: to notice subtle patterns in posture, muscle engagement, and mobility that influence how the baby and birthing body work together.

This knowledge allows me to help clients prepare their bodies intentionally, so labor can progress more efficiently, with fewer physical barriers or unnecessary tension.

By doing this prep prenatally, we can significantly decrease your chances of baby not rotating or descending into the pelvis, which is frequently the cause of long labors, stalled or slowed progression in labor, and difficulty with pushing, which frequently leads to more complications, higher rates of interventions and cesareans, and a more difficult recovery. I am not promising that this method will rule out the possibility of a long labor or cesarean birth, but I am promising to give you the best chance at a physiologic birth with this method.

How I Incorporate BRM® Into My Work

As part of my doula care, I weave BRM® principles into every stage of support, from prenatal visits to labor and the early postpartum period.

During a Prenatal Visit

We will complete a full Body Ready Method® assessment designed to understand and support your body’s unique needs:

  • In-depth health history: We’ll discuss your movement background, birth history (if applicable), lifestyle, and any discomforts or previous injuries.
  • Alignment and mobility assessment: I’ll observe how your body moves, stands, and carries weight to identify what may influence your comfort or baby’s positioning.
  • Identify areas of imbalance or tension: We’ll look for patterns that may impact your experience of pregnancy or birth.
  • Customized movement plan: You’ll receive simple, practical exercises and positions designed to support balance, mobility, and ease in your daily life.
  • Hands-on guidance and practice: Together, we’ll explore movements and body mechanics to help your body feel more open, aligned, and ready for birth.

During Labor and Beyond

Throughout labor, I use BRM® tools and observation skills to suggest positions and movements that support baby’s rotation and descent, promote comfort, and encourage efficient progress. After birth, I help guide gentle, restorative movement strategies that support your body’s natural recovery process.

The Philosophy That Guides My Practice

Body Ready Method® emphasizes trust: in the body, in the process, and in the person experiencing it. Preparation doesn’t have to be rigid or prescriptive; it’s about giving your body the best environment to do what it already knows how to do.

Incorporating BRM® into my doula practice allows me to combine evidence-based information with intuitive, compassionate care, supporting both the science and the art of birth.
